The Editorial Council of The Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry is pleased to announced the appointment of Dr. David R. Burns as Assistant Editor. Dr. Burns is currently a Professor of Prosthodontics and Director of Graduate Prosthodontics at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry, where he has been a full-time faculty member for 19 years. He received his DMD in 1980 from the University of Oregon Health Sciences Center School of Dentistry in Portland, Oregon. He completed a 1-year dental general practice residency with the United States Public Health Service in 1981, and completed a combined fixed and removable prosthodontic residency program at Emory University School of Dentistry in 1985.

Dr. Burns Brings previous editorial experience to this new appointment. He served 6 years as the Section Editor for Clinical Sciences for the Journal of Prosthodontics. Additionally, he was the Editor-in-Chief of The ACP Messenger, a bimonthly newsletter for the American College of Prosthodontics, for 6 years. He has also served as an ad hoc reviewer for the Journal of Dental Research and the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

Dr. Burns is actively involved in prosthodontic research and is presently funded through the National Institutes of Health to study multiple treatment modalities associated with mandibular implant overdenture treatment, an area for which he has become nationally recognized. He has published articles on a wide variety of topics associated with prosthodontics. Dr. Burns is a Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics, a Fellow in the American Academy of Fixed Prosthodontics and the American College of Prosthodontists, and a member of the American Association of Dental Editors. Dr. Burns maintains a private practice in Prosthodontics through the Dental School Faculty Practice.

Ms. Prysiazny received her BA from Rutgers University in English and MA from Regis University (Denver) in Language and Communication with an emphasis on Intercultural Communication. Her diverse background ranges from working as a reference librarian to teaching English for two years in Takayama, Japan. After returning from Japan, she taught Japanese heart surgeons and edited their publications while teaching ESL (English as a Second Language) to students as well as business people from all over the world for the next five years. Ms. Prysiazny taught Communication and Speech at Augusta State University (ASU) for a year after moving from Colorado to Augusta and continued to teach part-time while managing the ID Section at MCG. Currently, Editorial Manager for the JPD, Ms. Prysiazny also teaches night classes twice a week in Advanced Public Speaking at ASU.

Dora Lockhart, the Journal’s Editorial Assistant, is originally from Louisville, Kentucky. Mrs. Lockhart graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English from Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois in 1994. Her work experience includes investor relations/public relations work for the Financial Relations Board in Chicago, Illinois and five years of special projects/public relations coordination for the Center for Telehealth at the Medical College of Georgia. Mrs. Lockhart served as webmaster for the Center for Telehealth and the Georgia Mental Health Network, and as Assistant Editor for The Telemedicine Connection, a statewide newsletter.
